About This Experience

The Snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks Day Cruise is a full-day Moreton Island experience that combines a guided snorkelling tour of the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks with scenic ferry transfers, snorkel gear and full access to Tangalooma Island Resort. Led by experienced guides in the water, it offers a safe way to explore one of Queensland's most famous artificial reefs before enjoying the resort's facilities on the island.

Snorkel The Tangalooma Wrecks Experience
Your day begins with a scenic ferry cruise from Brisbane across Moreton Bay to Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island, setting the tone for a full day of adventure. After arriving at the resort, you'll board a snorkel boat for the short trip out to the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks, where your guides provide a comprehensive safety briefing before you enter the water.

The guided snorkel tour gives you the chance to explore one of Queensland's most celebrated underwater environments with experienced guides in the water with you. Around the Tangalooma Wrecks, an artificial reef created around 15 sunken vessels, you'll swim among colourful reef fish and thriving coral formations. If you're lucky, you will spot sea turtles, dolphins, wobbegong sharks and stingrays too.

Tangalooma Island Resort Activities
Once you've finished snorkelling, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at Tangalooma Island Resort. Take a refreshing swim in the pools, stroll along the beach, enjoy lunch using your included resort voucher, or simply relax with a drink while soaking up the laid-back island atmosphere.

If you'd like to extend your experience, you can upgrade to stay later on the island and participate in the famous wild dolphin feeding from the jetty, enjoy a sunset cocktail at one of the resort's waterfront bars, or combine both with a spectacular 12-minute helicopter flight for a unique aerial perspective of Moreton Island before returning to Brisbane. All these upgrades are available to book at an extra cost.

Who Is This Tour Best Suited For
The Tangalooma Snorkel The Wrecks Day Cruises is ideal for those who want the confidence of a fully guided snorkelling experience rather than exploring the wrecks independently. It's particularly well suited to first-time snorkellers, families and anyone looking for an easy, well-organised day that combines an unforgettable underwater adventure with plenty of time to relax and enjoy Tangalooma Island Resort.

Is this a guided or self-guided snorkel experience?
Fully guided. An experienced guide leads the group in the water for the full session, with crew safety vessels on standby, which sets this apart from the self-hire snorkelling included in the Aquatic Adventure Day Cruise.

How much time do we actually spend snorkelling?
The tour runs for 90 minutes in total, including the safety briefing, gear fitting and transfer to the site, with approximately 30 to 35 minutes of that spent in the water, conditions permitting.

Do I need to bring my own snorkelling gear?
No. All equipment is provided, including mask, snorkel, fins and a wetsuit, so there's nothing extra to pack.

Is this suitable for nervous or first-time snorkellers?
Yes. The guided format with crew safety vessels on standby makes this a comfortable option for less confident swimmers and first-timers, more so than self-guided snorkel.

Can I stay on the island after my scheduled return time?
Yes. If you'd like to make the most of your visit, you can choose the Extended Island Time option, which lets you return on a later ferry and enjoy extra time at Tangalooma Island Resort.

Where can I park before catching the ferry?
Parking is available at Holt Street Wharf in a secure open-air car park. Payment is made onsite on the day of travel, and parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Will I need cash during my visit?
Not necessarily. Most outlets throughout Tangalooma Island Resort accept EFTPOS and major credit cards, and ATMs are available if you need to withdraw cash.

Can I visit Moreton Island with a pet?
No. As the island is part of a protected national park, domestic pets are not permitted.

Can I take food and drinks onto the ferry?
You can bring your own food, but alcoholic beverages aren't allowed. The ferry and resort are fully licensed, with drinks available for purchase throughout the day.

Where can I store my belongings while exploring?
Lockers are available for hire within the resort, making it easy to leave bags and valuables somewhere secure while you enjoy the island.

How long does it take to reach Tangalooma from Brisbane?
The ferry crossing usually takes around 75 minutes, although travel times can vary slightly depending on sea conditions.
