About This Experience

The Marine Discovery Day Cruise is a full-day Moreton Island experience that combines scenic ferry transfers with a dedicated wildlife-watching cruise through the pristine waters of the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Along with the marine discovery tour guided by knowledgeable crew, the experience includes full access to Tangalooma Island Resort, giving you time to relax on the island between unforgettable encounters with native marine wildlife.

The Moreton Bay Marine Discovery Experience
Your day begins with a relaxing ferry ride across Moreton Bay to Tangalooma Island Resort, where the adventure continues with a purpose-built Marine Discovery Cruise. Unlike the ferry transfer, this guided cruise is designed specifically for wildlife spotting, taking you along Moreton Island's spectacular coastline while experienced crew share fascinating insights into the unique marine ecosystem.

As you cruise through the sheltered waters of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, keep watch for Bottlenose Dolphins playing alongside the boat, dugongs and sea turtles bobbing up and down, and rays gliding beneath the crystal-clear water. Each trip is a unique opportunity to experience these animals in their natural habitat while learning more about their behaviours and the environment they call home.

Tangalooma Island Resort Activities
After your marine discovery cruise, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy everything Tangalooma Island Resort has to offer. Relax by the swimming pools, stroll along the beach, enjoy lunch using your resort lunch voucher, or unwind at one of the cafés or bars overlooking the bay. If you'd like to make even more of your visit, you can also choose from a range of optional upgrades, including watching the resort's famous wild dolphin feeding from the jetty, enjoying a sunset cocktail, or taking a scenic helicopter flight over Moreton Island before your return ferry to Brisbane.

Who Is This Cruise Best Suited For
This experience is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts who want to experience Moreton Bay's incredible marine life without getting into the water. It's a great choice for families, photographers, nature lovers who enjoy learning about the natural environment through expert commentary, while still having plenty of free time to relax and experience Tangalooma Island Resort.

Are wildlife sightings guaranteed on the Marine Discovery Cruise?
No sighting can be guaranteed, since it depends on conditions and the animals' own movements, but the route is chosen specifically for its track record of dolphin, dugong, turtle and ray sightings.

Is this a snorkelling tour?
No. The Marine Discovery Cruise is a guided viewing cruise from the boat, not an in-water activity. Guests wanting to get in the water with marine life should look at the Aquatic Adventure or Snorkel the Wrecks cruises instead.

Is the commentary suitable for kids?
Yes, the eco commentary is aimed at a general audience and is a popular way to introduce children to marine wildlife and habitats in an accessible way.

How long does the Marine Discovery Cruise itself run for?
The cruise runs as part of the day's schedule alongside free resort time; check-in staff confirm the exact time slot for the day when you arrive at the wharf.

Is there car parking at Holt Street Wharf?
Yes. An open-air, fully fenced car park is available at Holt Street Wharf for $20 per vehicle per day, or $80 per week. Parking is paid on arrival on a token system, pre-booking isn't available, and no refunds are issued.

Are there EFTPOS facilities at the resort?
Yes. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are available at reception, the resort shop, the tours desk, and all restaurants and bars, with ATMs also available in the resort centre.

Can I bring my pet to Tangalooma or Moreton Island?
No. Moreton Island is a national park, so pets are prohibited on the island.

Can I bring my own alcohol to the resort?
No. Both Tangalooma Island Resort and Tangalooma Launch Services are fully licensed, so outside alcohol cannot be brought aboard the launch vessels or into the resort. Drinks can be purchased on the boat and at the resort bar.

Are lockers available for day guests?
Yes. Lockers are available to hire near the Coffee Shop and at Tanga Water Sports, with prices starting from $2 per use. Ask at reception on arrival for details.

How long is the transfer from Brisbane to the resort?
Approximately 75 minutes each way, though this can vary slightly with weather and swell conditions across Moreton Bay.
