About This Experience

The Classic Whale Watching Adventure tour is the best-value way to experience Brisbane's annual Humpback Whale migration without paying for reserved seating. Departing from Redcliffe aboard the purpose-built Eye Spy, this 5.5-hour cruise takes you into the sheltered waters of Moreton Bay, one of the world's premier whale watching destinations, where migrating Humpback Whales regularly breach, tail slap and surface close to the vessel.
With this package, you enjoy flexible seating throughout the main deck (excluding reserved window tables), access to all outdoor viewing areas, expert commentary and the freedom to move around the vessel to follow the whales as they appear.

The Classic Whale Watching Experience

Whale watching is unpredictable, in the best possible way. One moment the ocean is calm, and the next a Humpback launches clear from the water. The classic package lets you enjoy that excitement with the freedom to explore the vessel's outer viewing areas rather than being in one reserved seat.
Along the way, Captain Kerry Lopez and her experienced crew provide fascinating live commentary, while a dedicated spotter plane guides ‘Eye Spy’ directly towards whale activity. Underwater cameras and hydrophones add another dimension to the experience, allowing you to both see and hear these magnificent marine mammals.

‘Eye Spy’ skipper Captain Kerry Lopez is recognised as the only woman to own     and skipper a whale-watching vessel in the South Pacific rim. Her hospitable crew is equipped with years of local knowledge, and a portion of every ticket sold goes toward ongoing whale research.

A gourmet picnic lunchbox of chicken, garden salad, potato salad and fruit is served during the cruise, with a vegetarian option available on request if you let the team know when booking.

Who Is This Cruise Best Suited For

This tour suits first-time whale watchers, budget-conscious travellers and families, thanks to the dedicated family ticket price.

What is the difference between the Classic and Premium Whale Watching packages?
The Classic package includes access to all main deck seating except the reserved window tables, along with outdoor viewing areas. If you'd like a guaranteed window table for the entire cruise, the Premium package is the better choice.

Can I move around the vessel on the Classic package?
Yes. You're welcome to explore the outdoor viewing areas and available seating on the main deck (excluding Premium window tables) throughout the cruise, allowing you to follow the whales from different vantage points.

Is the Classic package suitable for families?
Absolutely. The Classic package offers excellent value for families, with flexible seating, child-friendly facilities and plenty of space to enjoy the whale watching experience together.

Do all packages include the same whale watching experience?
Yes. Every package includes the 5-hour whale watching cruise, expert commentary, gourmet picnic lunch, underwater cameras, hydrophone, Cessna spotter plane guidance and the whale sighting guarantee. The key differences are your seating, viewing areas and level of personalised service.

Is a family ticket available?
Yes. A family price is available for this general-seating cruise; ask at the time of booking to confirm eligibility for your group.

Am I guaranteed to see a whale?
Yes. We have spotter planes to assist. If no whales are sighted on your day of travel, you’ll be offered a complimentary seat on the next available departure.

What happens if sea conditions are bad?
The crew constantly monitors weather and sea conditions. If a cruise is cancelled for safety reasons, you’ll be offered a seat on the next available cruise or a full refund.

What should I wear?
Dress warmly and wear flat shoes; a light waterproof windbreaker is handy if you plan to spend time on the outside decks.

What if I get seasick?
‘Eye Spy’ is purpose-built for comfort on the water, but motion-sickness tablets are available onboard for anyone who needs them.

Is parking available near the Redcliffe Jetty?
Yes. The Captain Cook car park, 100 to 200 metres north of the jetty at Redcliffe Parade and Klinger Road, offers non-time-limited parking.

  • Tours operate daily from June to November, weather permitting
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times
