About This Experience

Strahan is the gateway to one of the world's last great wildernesses that flank Gordon River. And the World Heritage Cruise is your ticket in. Departing at 9:00am, aboard the purpose-built catamaran Harbour Master II, you will enjoy a full six-hour adventure through untouched landscapes, history and flavours that simply cannot be found anywhere else on earth.

The Main Deck Centre seats are the smartest way to experience this iconic day without stretching your budget. You are free to step-out on to the open-air decks whenever you like, so you'll share every stop, every story and every extraordinary view with passengers in premium seats. Same experience. Smarter price.

What you will see on a Gordon River cruise:

  • Hells Gates: The first landmark you see is Hells Gates, the narrow, dramatic passage from the wild Southern Ocean into Macquarie Harbour. It was named by convicts, who knew the harsh realities that awaited them on the other side.
  • Liberty Point: Next, cruise past Liberty Point, where you can see aquaculture pens that breed Atlantic salmon and Ocean trout in the pristine Tasmanian waters. You'll taste this local produce yourself at lunch.
  • Sarah Island: Then comes Sarah Island, where you get to step ashore and explore the island, which is Australia's harshest convict settlement, pre-dating Port Arthur and feared by every prisoner sent here. Your guides showcase how these convicts transformed their hell on earth into one of the largest shipbuilding yards in the colony. Haunting, fascinating, yet utterly unforgettable.
  • Gordon River: And then comes the undisputed highlight, the Gordon River itself. Cruise deep into the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and take in the beauty of the mirror-like reflections on the river.
  • Heritage Landing: You will also stop at Heritage Landing for a boardwalk through lush thickets of ancient rainforests. See towering Huon Pines and experience the hush of the wilderness that surrounds you completely.
You can return to the main deck for a lunch prepared on board with fresh Tasmanian produce, served to your seat. There is a well-stocked bar and galley with tea, coffee, snacks and alcoholic beverages to keep you going through the day.

By 3:00pm you'll be back at Strahan Wharf, with memories that will last far longer than the six hours it took to make them.

NOTE: Evening Departures (Dec–Jan): Additional evening departures operate during the peak season. Choose your departure at the time of booking.
