About This Experience

Aboard this World Heritage Morning Cruise, you’ll spend the day exploring Macquarie Harbour and the wild Gordon River that snakes through lush rainforests, discovering a side of Tasmania that remains unbelievably untamed.

With a Main Deck Window seat on the ‘Harbour Master II’, the view is always waiting for you. Every landmark and every bend of the Gordon River arrives through your own window… uninterrupted and entirely yours. Step outside onto the open-air decks whenever the moment calls for it, or simply sit back and let the wilderness come to you, a view you don’t have to chase.

What you will see with World Heritage Cruises

  1. Hells Gates: Your window frames the dramatic views of this drama as you cruise by this narrow, wind-scoured passage where the Southern Ocean meets Macquarie Harbour, named by convicts who knew they were crossing the gateway to the hell that awaited them. Your window frames every detail of it.
  2. Liberty Point: Cruise past the Atlantic Salmon and Ocean Trout farms at Liberty point, which becomes all the more interesting when you know you will be tasting same fish at lunch later in the day.
  3. Sarah Island: The boat then ties up at Sarah Island, which reveals one of Australia's most extraordinary prisoner stories. Your guides artfully tell the story of how this remote settlement was transformed into a thriving shipbuilding hub by the very prisoners it was meant to break.
  4. Gordon River: This the centrepiece of the day. In the heart of the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, the river runs dark, still and brilliantly reflective.
  5. Heritage Landing: This is where you will go ashore to enjoy a rainforest boardwalk through thickets of ancient Huon Pine… trees that stood centuries before Australian history came into being.
Lunch is served to your seat, freshly prepared on board from local Tasmanian produce. You also have access to a well-stocked bar and galley during the cruise. You will return to the Wharf by 3:00pm, with every moment of the experience enjoyed from your window seat.

NOTE: Evening Departures (Dec–Jan): Additional evening departures operate during the peak season. Choose your departure at the time of booking.
