About This Experience

The Shaolin Sunset Cruise is a 1.5-hour evening sailing experience departing Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina at 5:00pm daily. Aboard the ‘Shaolin’, one of only a handful of authentic Chinese junk boats in Australia, you'll cruise through Dickson Inlet and into the Coral Sea, enjoying views of Four Mile Beach, the Port Douglas coastline and the surrounding mountain ranges. Your cruise includes a complimentary welcome drink, freshly prepared yum cha canapés and live commentary from the captain.

Sunset Over the Coral Sea
There's no other boat on the water in Port Douglas quite like the ‘Shaolin’. Her teak deck and cushioned lounge area set the tone for a relaxed evening. As the ‘Shaolin’ clears the waterfront and heads into the Coral Sea, Four Mile Beach and the ranges behind Port Douglas catch the last light of the day.

Yum cha canapes and a welcome drink are served as you settle in, and you’re free to buy more drinks from the licensed bar on board. Your captain entertains you with informative commentary pointing out the coastline and mountains that frame Port Douglas. With only small groups on board, the sail never feels rushed or crowded. Sailing on an authentic Chinese junk is a quietly theatrical way to watch the sun go down.

Who Is This Cruise Ideal For

The Shaolin sunset sail suits couples or small groups wanting a more personal alternative to a large catamaran cruise and anyone keen to experience a very rare vessel rather than a standard sunset boat.

What happens if the sunset sail departs in the rain?
Port Douglas can have the occasional shower during the wet season from January to March, but the Shaolin has a sheltered saloon that comfortably seats 12–15 guests, and passenger numbers are reduced on wet days for everyone's comfort. Umbrellas are handed out to guests who'd still like to sit up front. The cruise runs rain or shine, and it's just as enjoyable without the sun.

Can I buy souvenirs on board?
Yes. Junk boat t-shirts, drink coolers and hats are available for purchase, with EFTPOS facilities on board.

Can I bring my own food or drinks?
BYO isn't permitted. The Shaolin is fully licensed, serving Australian wines and beers in addition to the welcome drink and yum cha canapes already included in your fare.

Is the sunset sail suitable for children?
Children aged 2–12 are welcome at the child fare, and infants under 1 sail free. As the tour involves an open deck and boarding steps, families should be comfortable supervising young children throughout the cruise.

How many guests are on board?
The Shaolin carries small groups only, which keeps the sail intimate and unhurried.

  • Additional beverages can be purchased on board via cash or EFTPOS
