About This Experience

Departing from Brisbane's Holt Street Wharf, this whale watching cruise  combines a scenic Moreton Bay ferry transfer, a 3-hour Humpback Whale watching cruise and free time at Tangalooma Island Resort in one seamless itinerary. The cruise includes commentary, a light lunch served on board during the whale watching tour, refreshments on the ferry and a whale sighting guarantee.

You also enjoy access to the resort's pools, restaurants and bars, with optional upgrades such as sunset cocktails, wild dolphin feeding and the Sea to Sky experience for those wanting to extend their island stay.

The Whale Watching + Resort Experience

Your day begins with a relaxing 75-minute catamaran cruise from Brisbane across Moreton Bay to Tangalooma Island Resort, with complimentary tea, coffee or a soft drink served along the way.
Once on the island, it's time for the main event: a 3-hour whale watching cruise. Head out in search of migrating Humpback Whales while an onboard Eco Ranger shares fascinating insights into their behaviour and migration. A light lunch and refreshments are served during the cruise, so you can stay focused on the whales in action – a common sight during the July to October season.
Back at Tangalooma, the rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy. Take a dip in the resort pools, grab a drink or meal at the bars and restaurants, or join one of the Eco Ranger presentations. If you're not ready to leave, you can choose one of the optional upgrades like a sunset cocktail, wild dolphin feeding or the Sea to Sky experience that give you extended time on the island.

Who Is This Cruise Best Suited For

This experience is ideal for first-time visitors, couples and families looking to combine whale watching with time at Tangalooma Island Resort in one convenient day trip. It's a great choice for anyone who wants ferry transfers, lunch, resort access and a guaranteed whale watching experience included in a single booking.

When is the best time to see whales on this cruise?
Humpback Whales migrate through Moreton Bay roughly between June and October each year, with sightings most frequent in July and August. The cruise runs a Whale Sighting Guarantee across the season, so timing your visit within these months gives the best chance of an active day on the water.

What happens if no whales are spotted?
This cruise operates under a Whale Sighting Guarantee. If no whales are seen during the whale watching window, guests are offered a return visit, in line with the operator’s guarantee terms at the time of travel.

Is this cruise suitable for young children?
Yes. Child pricing is available for ages 3 to 14, and the day includes plenty of downtime at Tangalooma Island Resort, including pool access, which suits families looking to balance wildlife viewing with easier, lower-key activities.

Can I add the sunset cocktail upgrade on the day, or does it need to be booked in advance?
We recommend adding the sunset cocktail, wild dolphin feeding or Sea to Sky upgrade at the time of booking to guarantee availability, since these extend your return time and are subject to capacity at the resort.

Is the cruise wheelchair accessible?
Tangalooma Island Resort is wheelchair friendly with paved footpaths and ramp access to most facilities. Crew will assist with motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters on boat transfers, though tight boarding turns can be difficult for larger chairs, so contacting the operator ahead of travel is recommended.

Is parking available at the departure wharf?
Yes. Open-air parking is available at Holt Street Wharf for $20 per vehicle per day or $80 per week, paid on arrival. The car park is fenced and locked overnight, and payment cannot be pre-booked or refunded.

  • Check-in at Holt Street Wharf is required at least 1 hour prior to the stated departure time
  • The standard return cruise departs Tangalooma Island Resort Wharf by 4pm, unless a sunset cocktail, wild dolphin feeding or Sea to Sky upgrade has been added
  • On arrival at the Brisbane ferry terminal, guests receive a registration (Rego) card with their vouchers; this includes return ferry details and a QR code linking to the day’s full inclusions and schedule
  • Moreton Island is a national park; pets are not permitted
