About This Experience

This Great Barrier Reef & Daintree Rainforest tour is the ultimate way to experience two of the world's most extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Areas on a single Cairns itinerary. On one day, board award-winning superyacht Evolution and spend over five hours at the outer reef, snorkelling, marvelling at living coral gardens teeming with marine life and relaxing on the decks. On another day, leave the city behind on a guided Daintree Rainforest tour from Cairns, travelling north through sugarcane country into one of the planet's oldest tropical ecosystems.

Great Barrier Reef Day
‘Evolution’ departs Reef Fleet Terminal at 8am, cruising 90 minutes to the outer reef. Depending on conditions, your first stop will be Norman Reef or Saxon Reef — two exclusive moorings that see far fewer visitors than inner-reef pontoons. Snorkel alongside PADI-qualified dive instructors and Master Reef Guides, or upgrade to an introductory or certified scuba dive. A chef-prepared BBQ buffet lunch is served onboard, followed by an afternoon at Hastings Reef before the scenic return cruise, complete with complimentary wine, cheese and biscuits.

Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation Day
Your Cape Tribulation day trip begins with a hotel pick-up from Cairns CBD and a scenic drive north to the Daintree. Board a flat-bottomed river boat for a one-hour Daintree River cruise, scanning the mangroves for estuarine crocodiles and endemic birdlife. A guided elevated boardwalk through Daintree National Park reveals flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth. You will also have time for a refreshing freshwater swim before continuing to Cape Tribulation Beach, where the rainforest literally meets the reef. Daintree Rainforest Tour
Pick-up from Cairns CBD accommodation between 6:45am and 7:15am. Please include your accommodation name in the comments at booking.

Day 1 — Great Barrier Reef
  • 7:15am–7:45am: Check-in at Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence Street, Cairns. Head to the Down Under Cruise and Dive counter, collect snorkel gear and enjoy arrival tea, coffee and muffins.
  • 8:00am: Evolution departs Cairns. Safety briefing en route to the first reef location.
  • 9:30am: Arrive at Norman Reef or Saxon Reef (weather and visibility dependent). Begin snorkelling, diving or relaxing across three deck levels.
  • 11:30am: Chef-prepared BBQ buffet lunch served onboard.
  • 1:00pm: Evolution arrives at Hastings Reef, the second reef location. Continue snorkelling or simply enjoy the views.
  • 3:00pm: Evolution departs Hastings Reef for Cairns.
  • 4:30pm: Arrive back at Reef Fleet Terminal. Complimentary wine, cheese and biscuits served on the return leg.
 
Day 2 — Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation
  • 6:45am – 7:15am: Hotel pick-up from Cairns CBD accommodation.
  • Morning: Arrive at the Daintree River Cruise Centre. Board a flat-bottomed river boat for a 1-hour cruise; spot estuarine crocodiles, mangroves and endemic birdlife while enjoying morning tea.
  • Mid-morning: Guided elevated boardwalk walk through Daintree National Park. Your eco-accredited guide interprets ancient flora and fauna; keep watch for the Southern Cassowary.
  • Late morning: Refreshing freshwater swim in a secluded rainforest stream.

  • Afternoon: Stroll Cape Tribulation Beach and the photographers' boardwalk platform — rainforest and reef in a single view.

What reef locations are visited on the Great Barrier Reef day?
Evolution visits two outer reef locations per day, chosen based on weather and water clarity. Morning stops are typically Norman Reef or Saxon Reef; the afternoon stop is Hastings Reef. 

Do the reef day and Daintree day need to be booked on consecutive days?
No. The two days can be scheduled on non-consecutive days during your stay in Cairns. Contact the reservations team at help@australiancruisegroup.com.au to arrange your preferred dates.

What wildlife can I see on the Daintree Rainforest tour?
Wildlife sightings vary daily. Guests commonly encounter estuarine crocodiles on the river cruise, along with colourful birds, butterflies, frogs and reptiles. If you are lucky, you may spot the rare Southern Cassowary on the boardwalk.

Is the Daintree tour suitable for children?
Yes. The Daintree Rainforest tour is suitable for children aged 4 to 16. It includes a mix of gentle activities: river cruise, boardwalk walk, beach time and a swim that suits most families. Children aged 0 to 3 are not catered for.

Can I scuba dive if I have never dived before?
Yes. The introductory dive option through the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program requires no prior experience. You will learn basic skills before diving to up to 12 metres accompanied by a qualified instructor. Minimum age is 12.

What is included in the reef day lunch?
A chef-prepared BBQ buffet featuring steak, prawns and fish alongside a variety of salads, bread rolls and vegetarian and vegan options. Morning tea (muffins and scones) and afternoon tea (cheese and crackers) are also included.

Are dietary requirements catered for?
Yes. Both the reef day and Daintree tour offer gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Special dietary requirements must be confirmed at least 48 hours prior to departure.

  • All divers must complete a Queensland Medical Questionnaire. Divers aged 65+ require medical clearance from a physician (Fit to Dive).
  • Certified divers must present evidence of qualification (PADI, SSI, etc.) on the day.
  • No diving within 24 hours of a scheduled flight.
  • Minimum age for introductory diving: 12 years. Certified diving: 10 years (must dive with parent or guardian).
  • Special dietary requirements must be confirmed with the tour operator at least 24 hours prior to travel.
  • Helicopter upgrade: 130kg weight limit applies.
  • Large bags and luggage are not permitted onboard.
  • Children aged 0–3 are not catered for on the Daintree Rainforest tour.
  • Cancellation Policy: Full refund up to 72 hours (local time) before cruise date. After 72 hours: 100% cancellation fee applies
